School-Style Pizza

Ingredients:

For the Crust:

  • 2 2/3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup dry powdered milk
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 packet of instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 2/3 cups warm water (110-115°F)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

For the Toppings:

  • 1/2 pound Italian sausage
  • 1/2 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 (8 oz) block of mozzarella cheese

For the Sauce (Make a day ahead for best flavor):

  • 1 (6 oz) can tomato paste
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1/3 cup olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 tablespoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary

Instructions:

Crust:

  1. Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C).
  2. Prepare an 18 x 13-inch baking sheet by spraying it with non-stick spray and lining it with parchment paper.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, powdered milk, sugar, yeast, and salt. Whisk until thoroughly mixed.
  4. Add the vegetable oil to the warm water, then pour this mixture into the dry ingredients. Stir with a wooden spoon until a dough forms. Don’t worry about small lumps—just ensure there are no dry spots.
  5. Spread the dough onto the prepared baking sheet using your fingertips, pressing it out evenly. If the dough is too sticky, let it rest for 5 minutes before continuing.
  6. Bake the crust alone for 8-10 minutes. Remove from the oven and set aside.

Toppings:

  1. In a skillet, brown the Italian sausage and ground beef, seasoning with salt and pepper. Cook until the meat is crumbly. Drain any excess fat and set the meat aside.
  2. Retrieve the sauce made earlier.

Assembling the Pizza:

  1. Spread the prepared sauce evenly over the partially baked crust.
  2. Sprinkle the browned meats over the sauce.
  3. Grate the mozzarella cheese and sprinkle it over the meat.
  4. Return the pizza to the oven and bake at 475°F (245°C) for 8-10 minutes, or until the cheese begins to turn golden brown.
  5. Let the pizza cool for 5 minutes before slicing and serving. Enjoy!
